I remember driving south on Gilbert Road and when I saw the Copper Still Moonshine Grill sign I knew I had to stop by. Today I did exactly that. I previewed the menu online and decided on the Scorpion Burger with an upgrade to their signature Garlic Fries.
At first, the description of that Scorpion Burger led me to believe it was going to be a 4-alarm situation. But the reality was a bit different and in a good way. I'd say it's more spicy than hot, allowing you to appreciate all the flavors. It's a seriously delicious hamburger. The rub seasoning and spicy mayo give it a unique smokey chili flavor. The meat was thick and juicy and just delicious.
As it's name suggests, the Copper Still Moonshine Grill offers specialty bourbons and whiskeys. I like both, so I asked for a beverage paring recommendation. The answer: Copper City Bourbon. Just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? Oh yeah, let's have a shot of that.
Billy Joel sang about how he loves us all "just they way we are" while I savored that small tumbler of amber colored liquid fire. OMG. It was the perfect finish.
Copper City Bourbon is made by the Arizona Distilling Company based in nearby Tempe and has its own interesting history that you can read about on their website. I'm believe we've got a New American Classic: Burger – Fries – Bourbon. More specifically, the Scorpion Burger, Garlic Fries, & Copper City Bourbon. Think of it more as an “event” than just a meal. A reason to celebrate being alive, or that it's Thursday, or you live in Arizona!
